Affordable Commercial and Creative Production

Getting a TV Commercial produced can cost a fortune if you choose a company such as Anonymous Content or Saatchi & Saatchi to produce it for you. These companies will generally charge astronomical rates for a :30 second TV ad because they work with unions, celebrity talent, celebrity directors, producers, etc. Not to mention all the special effects.
A recent study by the American Association of Advertising Agencies reveals that Production costs made a considerable jump from 2010 to 2011. In 2011, it would cost an average of $300,000 to create a National TV Ad. This number was based on 10 agencies supplying budgets for over 506 commercials created that year.
As we discussed in a previous post, the trigger in these big-ticket productions come down to celebrity casting and Special Effects. Without those two elements, Commercial Production should not be more than $100,000. This would account for extremely fancy art direction and sets.
Interestingly, the time-frame to complete an ad is also expending. It is taking much longer to finish a commercial than it used to. On average productions take 5% longer to wrap than they did in 2010.
The average cost of $300,000 per commercial shouldn't scare away companies that had tucked away less than $50,000 for Creative Content. There are reliable National Production Companies and Creative Agencies such as Spot On Media that work with a range of Company sizes and budgets while delivering high-end quality.
"Our commercials are shot on the Red Motion Picture camera. We dedicate time to developing the creative, casting the right actors and polishing the end product for all of our clients, big or small," says Producer Shervin Youssefian at Spot On. In 2012, 50% of the TV commercials produced at Spot On fell within the $10,000 and $20,000 range.
How is it possible to pay less and make sure you get all the benefits of a large production company? Find a boutique start-up creative agency with a friendly team that has the capability of working non-union projects and be flexible with rates to create a long-term partnership.
